I remember following steps like those and for some reason the previous user's files still remain on the hard-drive (despite restoring the system). Is there an extra step when dealing with previous user's files?
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI recently came into a used macbook that came with everything (cables, mouse, cds, etc).
Since it was used, I would like to restore it back factory settings (as if I just brought it brand new from the store).
I'm used to restoring PC back to factory settings with a restore/recovery disc; and the macbook came with a Mac OS disc, which I'm guessing restores the OS back to factory settings.
Since it's my first contact with a Macbook, is there anything important I should know or keep in mind before restoring? Is it as simple as restoring a PC? and how do I load the Mac OS disc (does it boot up auto or run from os?).
Thanks!

It is a simple ... or even simpler than the PC!!!

As long as you are sure you don't want to save anything from the MacBook then proceed as follows. Check you have the CDs marked for OSX and System Restore
Insert the OSX CD and restart the computer ..as it restarts hold down the C key on the keyboard (this forces the MacBook to boot from the CD Drive).
Once the OSX CD launches onto the first page of the Installation Process .. you have 2 options to consider ..
Erase & Install .. reformats and puts on the OSX system
Restore System .. reformats, puts on OSX system and installs the FREE apps that came with the MacBook
The other options will only replace or repair the current system folder and leave you with a load of stuff you may now want.
This article covers all the Installation options and what they do
