Outlook for MAC to access remote exchange server

I agree with rolust, however, if you do not want to incur the expense, you can use IMAP which will not give you as much functionailty, but surely give you the relevant permissions,

To configure Exchange 2003 (SBS or not) to allow to use POP3 is as follows:

1. Under services, double-click on Microsoft Exchange POP3 and select Automatic and then click start
2. Route POP3 (Port 110) to the exchange server's internal IP address to allow incoming and outbound traffic.
3. test pop3 connectivity from an external address.

RPC/HTTPs is a name also known as Outlook anywhere, however it only needs Port 443 setup. please follow http://www.petri.co.il/configure_rpc_over_https_on_a_single_server.htm only.

RPC over HTTPS is not going to work here because it's not supported by Entourage.

Also, I don't quite understand ihasham's comment about "incurring the expense" because Entourage licensing is included with SBS at no additional charge.  You just need to order the media.  Per the FAQ:

If the user is working remotely they can still use Entourage with a VPN connection back to the SBS.  

Otherwise they can use Outlook Web Access without having to mess with installing a client at all.
I would recommend that you don't use POP3, and it's best to not use IMAP either.

I recommend not using POP3 for many reasons.  It's a security risk for starters... because you need to open up port 110 which you otherwise would want to keep closed.  Secondly, it uses more of your servers resources to run as a POP3 server.  Thirdly, if a user downloads messages via POP3 they will be removed from your server and therefore are not backed up with the rest of your Exchange Mailboxes.

Also, POP3 would only allow a user to get email messages... Calendaring, Contacts, Tasks, etc, would not be updated in their Exchange Mailbox and they would not be able to use collaborative features such as Scheduling, Shared Contacts, etc.

If you are going to have this person use anything other than Entourage, then you should have them configure their local client using IMAP instead of POP3 if you want all the features of the Exchange Mailbox to come through.  Enabling IMAP on your Exchange Server is still a bit risky from a security standpoint, since everything travels over the Internet in plain text, but it can be configured securely as well:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821603

I would still recommend that you have the user install and use Entourage with a VPN connection.
