Migrating mac data from afp to smb

Hi

I have a project where by i need to change the way macs connect to a volume from afp to smb for speed purposes as i want to do away with afp altogether but i have 500GB of data currently shared out via afp but when a mac connects via smb the resource fork data is lost and it looks weird to the users whats the easiest way for me to convert the data so that the data looks the same as in an afp share?

forgot to add the data is on a windows 2003 server.

I am guessing that the files are missing file extensions .. and therefore OSX cannot pre-determine the filetype when connected over SMB?

The best solution would be to assign all the files their proper extensions.

Can you confirm that adding a file extension to the files makes them appear OK on OSX .. then we can give you some options for bulk renaming.

OK .. Now you can use something like XRay to view the filetype and creator data
http://www.brockerhoff.net/xray/

And use FileAction to batch rename files (i.e. Add extensions) based on filetype or creator codes

It costs a couple of $$ but well worth it I'd guess

The best way I have seen so far. Use this product it's great http://www.grouplogic.com/products/extremeZ-IP/

Extremez-Ip it encapsulates the resource fork on windows files so the Mac clients see the files right and allows the illegal characters as well on Windows. Although best practices would be not to use it.

It's Cluster aware if you ever need to do clustering.

I recommend 100%
