Have problem cans seem to solve.... Have network Mac and Windows... Server is MAC sharing 1 folder... If Windows user creates or changes file in folder permissions are ok for everyone... If MAC user changes file permission becomes write only... The MAC users are using Parallel and are in windows to when changes are done...
The Mac users window profile login is Administrator The Window user profile login is his name
I have both the Administrator and the window user name in the shared user list on the MAC shared folder setting and have SMB checked
[Drive P] comment = "Drive P" path = /Users/admin/Documents/Drive P browsable = yes guest ok = no read only = no create mask = 777 force create mode = 777 directory mask = 777 force directory mode = 777
Is this in a domain configuration or a single server samba mode? If it is a domain setup, Windows XP Home does not have the control built into it to do what you need to do, you have to use XP Pro as far as I know.
Another update.... I figured that if the it's not a XP pro or home problem...
It was that when they open the file from mac parallels auomatically opens the file in windows and the modifications is save the permission problem occurs... If they open the file on the windows side of the mac the modification can be saved with out any permission problem...
This seems to be how parelles handles a document??
Hmm, try opening Parallels then navigate to the document and open it, save it and see what it looks like. I have found that when Parallels automatically launches to run Word (or another Windows app) it does handle permissions differently.
What application are these files being opened with? (Visio? Word?)
That is exactly it... this is AutoCad... but it does the same for office files... When I click on the file in mac and parallel recognizes that windows can open it... It launches the appication in windows to open the file when I modify and save it get the permission problem...
If I go from windows to the shared folder and open the file from within windows there is no problem at all...
I think I understand what is happening... when parallels opens the file directly I'm not really using the Samba configuration so the permissions configurations don't work... Is there a way to fix this??
I use dot MAC to connect from home and by having parallels open the files is the only way I can access them when remote...
