http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Unix/OS_X/Leopard_MAC_OS_10.5/Q_23694353.html

the link above which you added in ur comment seem to have a no of solutions...
which did you try?
- restarting (hard) ur modem and router
- trying alternate way of connection (frm wireless to wired or ViceVersa)

and for Leopard Cache cleaner i dont actually know how u can use it for ur prob:

This is something manual you can try. delete the contents of:
-Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/
-Library/Updates

the above dir store updates. even though your error is connection related, u can give it a try...

Also delete the

com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist files.

There are two of them in

~/Library/Preferences/

and also possibly in

Users/username/Library/Preferences/.

Thanks so much for your responses - as Muneer suspected Leopard Cache cleaner didn't do much to fix the problem..

I did however deleted every com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist files I could find stored in the my MAC's HD + on an external backup drive. Still no luck - the message still comes up even today's Latest MAC security Update.

So will have to still keep trying other things

Also having some processor lag late lately I am very tempted to perform a clean wipe of the internal drive and start again. Fix up two birds with one stone kind of thing..

Thanks anyway guys

Cheers

The terminal came to my rescue. Here is the command:
$ sudo softwareupdate -ia
This will prompt you for your root password and then start downloading the packages. Hope it helps a few until they fix this bug.
