Question

Windows XP Drivers for MacBook Pro

Asked by: acurrie77

I have the new MacBook Pro and have used BootCamp to install Windows XP on it then I inserted the Leopard DVD to install the drivers for XP and it went through a setup and I restarted the computer back into XP but the drivers are still not installed.  Does anyone know where to obtain the drivers for the new MacBook Pro with the Nvidia video card?

Also Id like to mention that if I run XP in the Parallels app I have then all the drivers are installed perfectly.  Is there perhaps a way I could export these drivers so I could install them in my native XP install as well?  Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions with this!

When you run window XP in parallel, window xp just share the hardware from Apple OS.  While you install window XP in BootCamp, it will need the driver for itself because the Apple OS wasn't running.  You need to get to device manager and check out which drivers need to be install, take note, search and download driver then install it.

You were correct in using the Leopard DVD to install the drivers.  If you are having issues getting the driver install to work then this will require some troubleshooting.

What version of Windows did you install?  It must be a 32bit version of XP or Vista.  If using XP then it must have SP2 bundled, you cannot install a previous version of XP and update to SP2.

You also want to make sure that your firmware versions are up to date.  Apple has a kbase article covering it here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303880

Thanks for your replie!  I have since corrected the problem and now have Windows XP running natively on the MacBook Pro with all drivers installed.  Where I went wrong is I inserted my actual Leopard DVD from the Apple desktop I also recently bought since my MacBook Pro only came with two restore disks.  However, I have since learned that disk 1 of these restore disks actually serves as the Leopard DVD and when I inserted it after booting into Windows XP on the MacBook it shows up as 'Windows Support' in My Computer then you run the installer on it and it will install every driver in one swoop! After you restart you are all set.  Thanks again for your tips.

What if you can not find the CD?  Then what?  Can you download these drivers for XP Pro 32bit for a MAC Powerbook?
