Okay, your response is a worthy answer based on the way I phrased the question. I am not actually looking to expand control of my Mac beyond its current capabilities with a remote control; I guess I should explain was doing in further detail.
I read about how you can use your iPod as a remote control <http://features.engadget.c
Thanks.

The built in IR receiver in the MiniMac I have (i assume might be the same on the MacBook) is only setup to receive 6 different IR signals. However there is a work around, with RemoteBuddy (http://www.iospirit.com/i ndex.php) and a learning remote. It essentially creates multiple instances of the standard apple remote allowing you to create more than 6 inputs.
