Can't empty Recycle Bin

When I try to empty the recycle bin on mac leopard I'm getting the message: "the prrogramas is locked, use the option key when emptying the recycle bin"

I use the option key while emptying recycle bin , but this is not working.

I'd appreciate any help

Have you tried a reboot to see if the program will unlock?

Typically, Command + Option + Shift + Delete will remove locked files from the trash. Like theras2000 said reboot and try again.

If that doesn't do it you can create a folder on your desktop called "garbage" and move everything out of your trash into the folder. Then, go to Applications > Utilities > Terminal > and type this command in the terminal (enter your password when prompted. This will instantly delete "garbage"):

sudo rm -R ~/Desktop/garbage

Or, you can move everything to the garbage folder and unlock items recursively with batchmod: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12057
