COM automation in FileMaker Pro with ability to see events

Is it possible to have a COM object that raises events within FileMaker Pro?

Example vendor provides SDK that includes ActiveX component that raises and event when a phone call is received.  I would like to look at the CallerID info property of the COM object when the COM event is fired and then run a FMScript.

I am new to the FileMaker platform... attempting to integrate.
