Why do scripts behave more slowly with new Filemaker 9 Installation

Tags: Filemaker Pro 9 and Filemaker 8.5

I have Filemaker 9.0 v3  installed on 3 new IMACS. Elsewhere on the network I have 2 Mac G3 machines running Filemaker 8.5. For some reason the newer machines which have way more memory seems to go to the "spinning rainbow" when performing scripts or coming up with pull-down lists,etc. The 8.5 machines actually run the application faster.
