Question

FileMaker Pro 7 Button Changed to an Image

Asked by: sanderling

I have a FM Pro 7 database designed by a person who is now unavailable.  It is a database of manuals, equipment, and components.  There is a button used through out the database with a magnifying glass on it.

This button has suddenly changed to the image of the past piece of equipment I entered into the database.  The button works as designed, but all buttons have now have this image.

Question:  Where do I look to change this back to the default image of a magnifying glass?

This "button" is really a container field with the image of a button and hourglass. It has been replaced by another image. Somehow somebody must have access to a layout with this field on it in a modifiable form. If you can, create a new layout with all the fields on it and then find the picture. If you can find another similar "button" picture on it , copy and paste. In the meantime I will look for suitable buttons

here is a suitable button

Yes, thank you for the response.

I have no experience with FM, I had the database put together by a guy who is no longer around.

I know enough to go to the layout view and click on the button.  There, I find I can do a lot of things
to the button - add a color, emboss it, put a pattern on it, insert test, change the font, and so on, but I don't find anything on the menu that allows me to apply a graphic file to the button.

I'll bet this is really simple, if I just knew where to look.

Thanks,

In layout mode control- or right-click the button and see if the 'Specify field..' option is available. if so, this will confirm the assertion above that the button action is attached to a field and not a graphic object. You can then use the susbsequent dialog box to identify what field that is, and what table it is from. After that, you need to find a layout based on said table where you can go in and change the field content to the new graphic.

Well, thank you for that pointer.  I did manage to find a page in the layouts that had all of the buttons on it.
I found that the button (container) in question did contain TV-7_U.jpg.  I copied the contents of another button with the same image and pasted it into the offending button.

But, I must have also pasted the script with it as now the database is totally screwed up.  I get all kinds of errors about missing indexes, equipment is connected to the wrong components and manuals are connected to the wrong equipment.

I guess a little bit of knowledge can do a lot of damage.

Pasting a script does no harm except if you execute it from the wrong place, and that is not handled in it.
If it is a "find" script, no reason it would corrupt anything.
skeleton's idea was to locate a field with the image in it, not just the image in another layout.
where, you last post shows you may have a more severe problem in your file. I suggest you run a "recover" (file recover) of your file to check the health of the file... read the recover report afterwards
