The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Error Burning DVD with Mac OS X

Asked by PeterHing in Apple Software, Mac OS X

Hi All,

I have a bit of trouble with one of our Macs in the office..

I recently changed the users account from a local one, to one that authenticates against our Windows network. This was to stop the user always having to authenticate when browsing to network shares.

All was working well, until they needed to burn a DVD. The user would select the files from the network share, and once the burning had started, it threw back an error saying it couldn't burn the fonts. What it appears now (or a current work around), is to move all the required files to the desktop (including the fonts) and burn them that way.

Below is what the user is saying to me:
"I am unable to burn discs with artwork. It gives me an error message saying that the fonts cannot be read or written (I have to include the fonts with the artwork otherwise the printers won’t be able to use the correct font)."

"The files I am trying to burn are folders which contain the following- Quark express files, fonts, images, profiles and a pdf."

"I have to include the fonts with the files otherwise when the printers open the files, it will default to courier font and look crap!"

"I have just done a test – which seems to have worked. I copied the files and fonts I wanted to burn onto my desktop and then burnt them to a disk. Although not ideal, this does seem to have done the trick. However you can bet that when I try and do that again, it won’t!"

Does anyone have any ideas or had the same problem before? It seems to work sometimes and we think we've fixed it, but it just keeps returning - and with our Infrastructure being mainly Windows based, my service desk team just don't have a clue (including me!).

Many Thanks,
