configuring apple mail in an sbs2k3 environment

Hi,
I have a windows 2003 SBS environment. Within this environment are two Mac users who have just gotten 2 of the new intel based macs. I'm having trouble connecting Apple Mail to the exchange server. I have joined the Macs to the domain using directory services. But when I attempt to configure apple mail for an account on the exchange server, I am informed that the exchange server cannot be found. If i ignore this message and complete the wizard and try to synchronise I get the message: the exchange server has refused a connection on port 143, please help.
