Quark files saved with OS X 10.5 break links when opened on computer running 10.4

I am not a Quark user, so I apologize if I miss name some things.

Here's the problem:

We have 2 machines one running OS X 10.5.3, one running 10.4.11.  Both machines have Quark 7.3 installed.  If a file is created with a linked picture on the 10.5 machine and saved to the server, when the 10.4 machine opens the file, the picture shows up, but when clicked on, the link is broken.  It happens the other way around as well.  (10.4 to 10.5)  The machines can share the files between computers of the same OS (ex: 10.5 to 10.5) just fine.   I can't figure out why the links are breaking between the OS because they are running the same version of Quark.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.
