I have Mac Mail (v3.5, OS X 10.5.6) connected to an Exchange '07 server through the Exchange option in Mail... Not sure if my SysAdmin had to relax some of the authentication security on the SBS box, though. Basically, if you are local, you just have to fill in the Outlook Web Access field in with the IP or hostname of your server. I remember having some issues with my Mac not picking up the internal DNS, so I just opted to use the mailserver's IP address.
What is your exact issue, though?

The general consensus is that Mac Mail does not play nice with Exchange Server. If you have Office for Mac, use Entourage instead: http://www.entourage.mvps. org/exchan ge/
x/exchange .html , so if you can wait a month and don't have Entourage, that may be the way to go.
On the other hand, Exchange support will be built in to OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) which will be available as a $29 upgrade from 10.5 in about a month: http://www.apple.com/macos
