While downloading the font sounds like a workaround, it seems to be a bit weird. Bear with me as I go through the logic:

1. iWorks tries to substitute calibri for Word fonts.
2. This implies calibri is an "important font in iWorks."
3. But the calibri font is not included in iWorks.

This makes no sense to me. What am I missing?

jasimon9,

The word document you're trying to convert to pages has somehow embedded the "Calibri" font that's why you're receiving this warning.

Calibri it's not a font included with iWork nor important, iWork by default uses the available fonts in your system.

If your word documents have any information related to a font that is not installed in your Mac you'll receive this warning and need to download and install the font in order to avoid this.

Regards

Yes, that all makes perfect sense, and seems like the "obvious answer."

Except for one thing - Calibri is not install on my Windows environment, as I said in the original question. So where is it coming from?

by: _phoenix_Posted on 2009-09-10 at 06:54:58ID: 25300226

It's possible that the fonts comes with another program and then it becomes available to other programs. i.e. Adobe Reader installs some other fonts into the system and then you can use them in Word, Corel Draw, etc.

In a MAC happens something similar, sometimes program install new fonts in the system.

I have thoroughly checking my Windows system, and Calibri is not available within Word nor within the Fonts applet. Thus I do not believe it is in my windows system.

However, I checked some older Windows systems on my network, and in fact Calibri is present. I am not specifically familiar with this font, and have never deliberately used it. However, it is likely that some original version of the documents in question came from that system. The obvious conclusion is that that other system is the source of this font.

So that part of the mystery is solved.

Since I am not using that font the fact that it is missing on the Mac system does not result in any actual conversion errors. So I am thinking that I can simply ignore the error messages for such documents.

As a test, I created a new Word doc in my Windows in VMWare, and then opened it in Pages, and no conversion error notice appeared.

So the mystery of the original question is solved, and I simply needed to look deeper into the source of the Word documents.

Points awarded for contributions.

Technically, the key to the solution is that I had to look on predecessor windows boxes, where the font was installed. So I would want to split points between my part of the solution and the expert contribution. However e-e does not allow that apparently.

Hi. I get this problem and it's bloody irritating! Like most people i suspect, I don't care about the missing font, or to acquire it - i just want the warnings to stop and it strikes me as bizarre that Apple would not code in a way for users to disable unimportant warnings.

So, can they be disabled?

If not then how does one download a font into iWork and thus cure it that way?

I have found that this warning appears not only when one converts a Word file into Pages, but also if one merely copies/pastes a section of text from Word into a Pages document and then even where the copied text was all of a different font, such as Ariel. I can't even cure the issue by selecting all in the Pages document and assigning it all a single font, again such as Ariel.

Is there a 'clear all formatting' feature in Pages as there is in Word and would this remove the allegedly hidden Calibri font?!

Cheers
