I.e. you have underallocated or overallocated memory to the virtual Machine?
The linux distro should be fine with a 256/512 MB of memory.

Browse All TopicsI have recently installed CentOS 5.3 on a virtual machine using MS Virtual PC 2007 SP1. I used the text line mode installation and followed a tutorial in doing so. However unlike the tutorial when I went to reboot I received a "Unrecoverable process error has occurred the virtual machine will now reset" message. I'm fairly new to the Linux world and not sure as to why this error is accruing considering I followed the installation demo exactly. Can anyone steer me in the right direction as to why this problem might be occurring and what to do to fix?

The splash screen has no detailed explanation other then the "Unrecoverable process error has occurred the virtual machine will now reset" . This error occurs within the first 5-10 seconds when the VM boots. I performed the install from an ISO DVD image. As for RAM I allocated 512MB which should be sufficient.
I did however get this same image to installed and running with Virtual Box so at least I know the image ins't corrupt. I have been reading other forums and other have reported similar issues with the newer distros of Linux and VPC working together. I'm thinking that I might try to install a older version and then try an upgrade to 5.3. That was one idea that I found searching online.

Does the Linux VM have a splash screen that details why it can not boot?
Are you performing a net install or do you have the ISO CD images from which you are installing?
