Export emails in Lotus Notes 7 to Outlook 2002

Dear Experts,

Apologies if this looks like a question that has been answered in PAQ's on numerous occasions, but I have tried everything previously published and been unable to find a solution.

I have an archive.nsf file which I have succesfullly managed to open in an evaluation copy of LN7.  I am struggling however to get all of my emails over to Outlook.

The Outlook connector is not an option for me as I do not have Domino server.

I have also attempted to export all documents in a view to a structured text file.  However when I open this document in Excel, every line of data has been saved on a separate line, including the email message body.  Therefore when I import the file into Excel I get thousands of blank emails.

I would be very grateful for any suggestions

It might be easier to set up a test server using the Notes 7 Evaluation Server.

I hope this helps !

Hi

Marilyn - thanks for the links I may use one of those, I have mailed abclotusnotes to see if they can help

sysexpert - If I install the evaluation server could you let me know what I need to do after that please.
I don't know if the evaluation copy has it but Notes includes upgrade utilities with the client to migrate stiff from outlook to notes.

You might try re-running setup of the 7 client, do a custom installation instead of typical and see if there is an option for upgrade tools.
oops..I misread the question. You're going the other way :)

Just ignore my post

Glenn,  In line with sysExpert's suggestion... what you would do if you decide to install the R7 server is a couple of things...

IN THEORY.... (so all chip in if I miss a step.. I did this on R6 server)

Decide in advance what your domain and name will be: i.e. glenn/MyDomain, along with your server name: myser/MyDomain.
In your Lotus Notes Client, with your old ID, open all the files that you want to be able to access, and adjust the ACL so that */MyDomain has manager access.  Also, if your archive is encrypted, you will then need to do File>>Database>>NewCopy and be sure to turn the encrypted off.

When you install the server, it will create the Admin and server id's, and your registration OU.  Switch to administrator and create your first account: glenn/myDomain.   Then make a copy of your archive db (Or move the unencrypted one) and move it to the server mail\directory.  Compact and replace the design, if you like, but change the person DOC in the NAB to point the archive file.

Install the Domino Outlook Connector on the computer that has OUTLOOK configured for workgroups (you'll find this either on the server CD, or http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2002/Dec02/12-20OutlookConnectorPR.mspx)

When you run the installation, it will ask for your server, name, and password.. and then will hook you up to the archive.nsf.  Now, from there you should be able to replicate your .nsf to a .pst file locally.

If you're installing the server on the same computer as the client, be sure to install into a different directory.  Also, you may have to add a bit of logic to your computer's host file so that a local call to myser/Domino resolves to localhost or to the computer's IP address.

I think that should work....:)
Hi,

I have ended up using the abclotus notes software, seems to be more than capable of handling the job.

Thanks for the server advice all thgough I'm afraid it is a little bit beyond my capability.

Marilyn - hope you dont mind me giving 50 points to sysexpert, let me know if it is a problem, think I got the assisted and accepted the wrong way round!
Hee, hee, yes you did get it reversed.  But as long as you posted the solution you used, then other people trying to find a solution will hopefully read down to the bottom to see what worked.

But SysExpert's answer is equally valid.  Just takes more time than ABCsoftware... isn't that a little killer converter?  Right now it's up there with pdf995 for inexpensive solutions.
