Inbox Repair Tool doesn't solve problem

I am unable to delete my Sent Items. The Inbox Repair Tool is unable to resolve the problem. When I send a message, it transmits OK, but the message now remains in the Outbox and is not added to the Sent Items.

I realize that this problem will only multiply as time goes by, so any assistance is repairing Outlook would be greatly appreciated.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office, and have run the Office repair. I have been able to back up all of my pst. file, so if I could completely delete the messages, I think I would be good to go, but the delete only returns the message "The message interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook." Restarting does not help.

The same error message appears if I try to move a message to another file.

Thanks,
John

Although the pst file is a bit large (353MB), it is not near the limit.

Version is 2000 SR-1 (9.0.0.3821)
Corporate or Workgroup
I would try two things...

1) Change mode to internet mail only and then back again.
2) Start Outlook 1 time with the /checkfolders command line switch.
No luck changing mode. I'm unable to run Outlook with a /checkfolders switch. How would this be done? What I tried is:

Run- Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Outlook.exe./checkfolders

Am I missing something?
eek... wrong switch. try /resetfolders.
Take a look at these.
I see three things I don't believe have been addressed - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;195922
Check the default account - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;195778
If its a PST the best is to export all messages to another PST and delete the old one. If its on the server save as many messages you can (the best is by using EXMERGE)and then use Clean Mailbox from AdminExchange. If its an important PST you cant fix by SCANPST you can try the PST2GB.exe which is for fixing over 2GB PST's. Last way is to Binary divide the PST and try to recover some stuff this way.
resetfolders switch doesn't work either. I'll try slink's and ilan-b's suggestions soon and report back. Thanks to everyone for the help. It may be a day or two.
Hi jlauster,

Were you able to resolve your problem with the tips by slink or ilan-b?

thanks...
Sory but this is little bit off the case...

I have similar problem. Althought its little bit complicated with a formatted hd, crypted and packet .pst-file. Somehow i can't get .pst-file recovered with any software. I have tried PC inspector, r-studio, and Easy recovery. All of these can recover this file, but file is unreadable for Outlook. After scanpst.exe outlook open file with nothing in it.

equipment in machine:
Windows 98
Office 97
HardDisk is fastformatted is there software for unformat?

can i do anything? Thanks anyway...
mr3onic: no, there is nothing you can do.
Sorry for the delay in responding to this. I have had no luck in solving the problem. I will try renaming the pst file and starting over with a fresh one. The problem all along has been that this is my wife's system, and she is very concerned about losing her messages.

Thanks for all of your help. I will ask CS for a points split for all that gave assistance.
points split requested. Question points have been changed to 200. Please select an expert's comment as an answer and then create 2 "points for <expertname>" questions for the others.

The solution for me on this problem (well very similar anyway, My boss was unable to delete files in the inbox) was to reisntall the entire office suite. Apply all patches from the MS Office Update site (reboot after each). Then start up Outlook using the default Outlook.pst file. Now you want to use your old Outlook PST file: use the "File", "Import/Export" feature. Outlook will ask you for the location of the file you want to import. Find your outlook.pst file (do a windows search using *.pst and pick the latest {and usually largest sized} .pst file from the list) then click Open.
I am running Outlook 2002 on a  Win2Kpro system. Trying to save an e-mail to personal folder and getting  the error message folder is full, please adjust size.  Ok I'll bite; where?  Now this happens with any folder he tris to put it in even a new empty folder.  We have tried deleting files from folders and am still getting the same message.  Any suggestions?
