Sync Error w/ Outlook 2003 - Exchange 2000

When clicking on Send/Rec I get
------

Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x8004010F): The operation failed. An object could not be found.

------

I have tried removing and recreating my profile... getting all updates... running office repair... to no avail

I have the same version of Outlook on my laptop, which connects to the same Exchange server... and there are no such errors.

Hi,

Can you check in the Event Viewer in the Application, if there is any error associated with the error message you get?
You should check the setup of your offline address book.  I have seen this several times.

You can check via:

Exchange System Administrator
Recipients
Offline Address Lists

Outlook 2003 utilizes a different method for caching the address book for offline use.  That is what the error is referring to.
OL2002: Error Message: "Microsoft Exchange Server' Reported Error (0X8004010F)..."

SYMPTOMS
When you work offline and press F9 to synchronize your folders, you may receive the following error message if your network connection is interrupted:

Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'The operation failed. An object could not be found.'
WORKAROUND
Might help the link is http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3BEN-HK%3BQ289969 if your issue is with the global address list for your email accounts. (i am receiving the same error for the same reason (we think) in outlook03)

To work around this problem, contact your e-mail administrator because the problem is with the offline address book configuration on your Microsoft Exchange Server.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
MORE INFORMATION
After you review the synchronization log, the following error message occurs in the client's Deleted Items folder:

Microsoft Exchange offline address book 0X8004010F

I doubt that this is the problem, since all other workstations use the same server and the same client without problems. It's got to be something on this particular workstation. Any other ideas?
I wish I could find another solution.  I have 3 laptops that will not download the global address list and I have tried everything I can think of (uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted the users etc) sounds like a similar issue to what you’re seeing.  Will post again if I find something that works.
I turned off Cached Exchange Mode and Disabled Offline stuff and error is gone. Of course, in this mode... what's the purpose of Sync'ing? ;-)
Just a thought, does your laptop user have a roaming profile, if the users profile is on the network, even if you wipe it from the laptop it will reload the same stuff. My current site does not use roaming profiles but have ran into the issue at other places, could not get email to work uninstalled and reinstalled on the local machine deleted the user on the local machine even changed stations only to discover it was the profile on the network that need to be deleted and rebuilt. Am still looking for a solution to the current issue and will post again if I find one. (Our users need to sync it is the only way they use email, log on sync up log off.. move on to the next location..)
i just tried deleting the ost file in C:\Documents and Settings\your users name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook outlook.ost. 1 of my 2 laptops is not sync'ing just fine. Don't know if it is a true fix yet or not but thought i would let you know.
I was wrong!! that did not fix it in outlook03, outlook2000 works find but as soon as the upgrade takes place it stops updating the global address list!! Am in the process of re-imaging both laptops as I type YUCK!! Need to find another solution
No doubt. I tried doing some rebuilding of the default offline address book (that's the only one on the server) and that didn't fix the problem either. Hopefully someone will come across a solution.

You may run into the same problem again.  We run under a single domain, and are having the same sync problem with more than one system with full permissions.  Microsoft does not have a solution to the problem yet.  They told us to delete and recreate the mail profile.  That works for a while, but then the problem reappears days or weeks later.
Thank you!!  FYI : The solution to our global address list book was to give permissions to the users account so it would match the exchange server this has worked every time without exception, in fact if you have the user email open when you are changing their permissions on the exchange sever side, when you check to address book tab it will go from “offline” to “global address list” when you check the correct box. Once we figured it out on the server/profile side we did not need to change anything on the desktop.
jwashington1504....please explain in detail your solution.  How does a user's permission "match" a server's?  Exactly what AD items' permissions did you change or sync with?

I have tested this with the "administrator" logon which has all rights.  It does not work.

Thank you.
User domain account permissions and user exchange server permissions MUST be the same the difference that has been the biggest for us is in the remote control option all have to be checked on both accounts but there has also been the “odd” permission that you have to pull the accounts up side by side to see.

Hope this helps
j

Note: our user span multiple domains so the exchange server for email and the user login account might be on different domains, some have a "trust" some do not.
