Outlook 2003 - Unable to remove a few folders from Favorites Folders (they end in "in Public Folders")

Hello All,

I'm running Outlook 2003 on XP SP1 with backend of Exchange 2003 Server.

A weird issue appeared after 2 months of use. I now have 5 links in my Favorite Folders that won't seem to go away (they just appeared). I can add other folders and remove them, but I have 5 that are visible that are unremovable. I can move them up and down, just not away. The links all end with "... in Public Folders". But there is no data in the Public Folders. I even deleted a folder one of the [Folder1 = real mailbox folder name] "Folder1 in Public Folders" and now I get an error, "The operation failed".

Any ideas BESIDES deleting and resetting up the profile? Reason is, the mailbox contains over 1GB of data. Or, is that really it?

Attempted Fixes
- Detect and Repair to initial settings
- Reboot and Relaunch of Outlook a few times

Thank you,
-Ben

Hello brunintje,

I'm going to give you all the credit since you gave the BIG assist in getting the answer.

Solution that cleaned up the Favorite Folders listing.
Quit Outlook 2003
Show all hidden files, system files, extensions, you know the drill, everything.
Within C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
Delete the file %OutlookProfileName%.xml
Relaunch Outlook 2003 and it'll recreate the file and the Favorites Folder listing will be empty.

Thank you again brunintje,
-Ben
thanks for the points :)
