Hotmail retrieval error 0x800CCCF4 or 0x80042007

Dear all experts,

I'm using Outlook 6.0 on Windows XP to retrieve my hotmail messages. But I could never succeed and either of the below error messages are shown:

"Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCCF4"

"Header download for the 'Inbox' folder did not complete. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x80042007"

I have tried to search Microsoft Website but was not able to find any solution for this problem. Can anyone please advise? Really appreciate. Thank you.

Thanks a lot for your links, sunray. However, NONE of the above matched my problems.

In fact, I have searched for the error codes that I encountered in the Microsoft Support website before I posted my question here. I think I have mentioned that in the question earlier.

Thanks anyway.
For the second error try doing this

Try this, under Tools | Options | General, remove the check mark from "Send and receive messages at startup". Also try unchecking the option "Always connect ..." inside Tools | Accounts | (select your email account) | Properties | Connection

For first one not sure if you had also seen this

Dear sunray,

I have followed your steps given for the 2nd error but it does not solved my problem.

I'm sorry that my question was not very clear. I am actually using Outlook Express 6.0. I have installed all the patches available for XP and IE. I'm connecting to a broadband (LAN), it was set to "automatically detect settings" and no proxy setting is required.

I double checked and found that the 2 errors encountered in fact have exactly the same message, except the error code is different.

"Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCCF4"

Dear other experts,

I sincerely apologise on the mistake in my question earlier. Please help.
A quick question.. Have you tried removing the hotmail account and recreating it back in OE ?

Temporarily disable any firewall or any anti-spam sofware that you might be running.

Did hotmail account on ur OE ever work or this issue started few days back ?

Make sure from hotmail support that your hotmail account doesnot have any issues ? May be you can create a dummy account in hotmail and try that account in OE to check that ..

Donot check that "automatically detect settings" if you just using a direct broadband connection. remove that check mark

Dear sunray,

I have followed all your suggestions above, but still cannot work. :(

>A quick question.. Have you tried removing the hotmail account and recreating it back in OE ? Done but same error.

>Temporarily disable any firewall or any anti-spam sofware that you might be running.
Done but same error.

Did hotmail account on ur OE ever work or this issue started few days back? I use OE in office on Win2K platform, and it works. I have this problem on my laptop at home, have changed 2 laptops so far, both running XP. In fact, the 1st laptop encountered the same error codes since the beginning, and there was once out of no reason, it suddenly successfully polled the messages to OE, but when I click reply or something, it gave me problems (can't really remember what exactly). I syn the accounts again and it gave me these error codes. So I deleted the account, and added the account again. After that, never succeeded.

>Make sure from hotmail support that your hotmail account doesnot have any issues ? May be you can create a dummy account in hotmail and try that account in OE to check that ..

I can access my hotmail by browser still. But i do prefer to use OE or Outlook as it allows me to browse the emails easier and faster. I created a dummy account in hotmail, also having same problem syn it to OE.

>Donot check that "automatically detect settings" if you just using a direct broadband connection. remove that check mark

Have unchecked the automatically detect settings. still have error.

I just updated the latest patch for IE last night... but still, doesn't work... >___<

Dear sunray,

I have given up on OE. Instead, I'm now using a light application (ePrompter) to retrieve my pop mails.

Really appreciate your helps.

Dear kfalandays,

Thank you for your volunteery. I don't think it's fair to just delete this question with no points refunded. As we did contributed to the question since it was posted, just that sadly speaking, there is no solution for this question up to day.

Maybe you would like to contribute?

By the way, I have given up on this problem. I have posted a question in Community Support for help in closing and refund.
