asked on

Change the way my name appears on outgoing emails.

I work for a smallish company who are using exchange server.

When I send an email, my name appears in other's inboxes as 'Jonathan'. I need it to appearas 'Jonathan Witherall'.

The person here who looks after the exchange server believes he has made the necessary change to my outgoing name. However, my emails still go out with my name appearing as 'Jonathan'.

Can you tell me what setting needs to be changed, so I can deal with it!!

Thanks

Since you are using exchange server there is nothing you can do on the client to change your user name.
It's all in the setup of the user on the exchange server.

Check what's it saying  in your folder list at the top
For me it says "Outlook  Today - [Mailbox - Lastname, Firstname]
and "Fristname Lastname" is put as sender of all my mails ...

and a question ... you are using the MAPI interface ... and not POP or IMAP ...
if you are using POP or IMAP you can change the name (an have to) on the client you use.
What interface are you using?

Hi there,

Fransenp:
Folder list at the top says
For me it says "Outlook  Today - Mailbox -jonathan

OK, as far as the interface, I'm not sure what you mean there! I'm using Outlook 2002, linked into exchange server. Is there any way of finding out if the interface is POP3 or IMAP?

One of the administrators has access to the mailserver, but his understanding of it may be limited.

Chers!!! ... Help...?!
Pls try the following

Click on Tools-> options in your outlook.
Click on  the 'Mail Delivery'  Tab.
You will find a list of email accounts you have subscribed . Select the appropriate email account  and click on the 'properties' button shown on the Right-Hand side.
Type your name in the field shown.

See if this works?... :)

Hi,

The only options I have are in Tools Options are; Preferences, Mail Setup, Mail Format, Spelling, Security, Other, Delegates.
Bear in mind I'm on Outlook 2002.

If I go to the accounts I can see one entry in the dialog window called 'Microsoft Exchange Server' and the only options available are Change, add or remove. If I click 'change' I can see the name of the exchange server and my user name which is 'jonathan'. There is then a button called 'More Settings' but nothig relates to my name.

Any further suggestions?... I'm upping the points!!!

You got it!!
Under Change->
Pls type your full name.
It works here for me.
I Have tried deleting and re-loading my profile, but I cannot choose the name 'Jonathan Witherall' when it comes to use the check name button. If I choose Jonathan Witherall, it says Name not recognised, so I have to revert to using 'jonathan'.

Any more clues, or is it only something that can be fixed on the exchange server?
From what you said it's only something that can be changed on the exchange server ...
It's probably you administrator that should open a ticker here asking how to set your full name to your mailbox in the exchange server ;)

Good luck in convincing your administrator ...
Any clues then what needs to change on the exchange server?
