Excel to Outlook

I cannot import my excel contact into outlook.  I have matched the headings in outlook and named the ranges.  I continue to get error messages.  The company name shows up, but not the email address.

This is driving me crazy!

Thanks,

Jay

Hi ljayburks,
> I cannot import my excel contact into outlook.

Not sure where the exact problem could be. First try with just 2 contacts and see if that would work then put all the contacts and import
or export from excel into a CSV file and then import that into outlook

i did this, but the email address isn't showing up in the contacts
spoke too soon...the information is outlook but when I try to email a contact it just appears as a semi-colon?
Are you sure you have good email addresses being exported?  I have imported and exported using Outlook many times and have had no problems.  I have had to use CSV files when going from a higher to lower version of OL.
what do you classify as a good email?  xyz@abc.com?  This is odd b/c in the contact file they all list the email address.  When I compose an email an hit to the email address appear as ;;;;...
i think i have it.  Is it erroring out b/c I don't have a contact first and last name associated with the company?  I try that.
ljayburks,

Aww.. few mins been out and slink sneaked in..

bummer didn't work.  Again I'm showing the information first and last name, company, email address, but when I try to send an email, all I see is commas and colons.
when i try to directly send an email from the contact file I get the error message.

Error creating new mail!  This may be caused to to an error with an incorrect email address or an invalid name for a distribution list.
Look at the email address itself and verify that you don't have any spaces at the beginning or end.
I tried this for the file saved as excel and as csv...no luck.  Again I'm getting the error msg from before.  However, when I import as excel, I only import the first letter of the email address.
Look at the CSV file with the Write program and verify that the complete email address is there with no spaces before, between, or after.
i think i got it.  When i change email the email type from custom to internet it works.  Is there anyway to mass change this field?
This sounds like a good one for Stefri ... forwarding!

Reimport specifying Email Address Type as SMTP
EmailAddress      EmailType      EmailDisplayName      Email2Address      Email2Type      Email2DisplayName      Email3Address      Email3Type      Email3DisplayName

The best is to export your current contacts, in Email Address Type column; set SMTP, reimport
