"You don't have appropriate permission to perform this operation" when clicking Send/Receive in Outlook XP
I am in a networked environment and run Outlook XP connected to an Excahnge Server (2000) -- One client pc has a strange problem where when I click Send/Receive I get the message "You don't have appropriate permission to perform this operation"
Mail seems to be delivered regularly, so I am not worried about missing mail, but am frustrated at my efforts to try adn resolve this.
I have searched for a solution here and have found a couple of links to the MS Knowledge base, but the links are no longer pointing to helpful information.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok. Just so you know that I'm not being over familiar, the above was a typo and should have read:
"Roaming profiles, eh? Don't you just love 'em!"
However, it's a long time since I've been referred to a peach, so all in all I don't don't think I've come off too badly. :-)

Heh -- just having a spot of fun -- but funny how a transposed letter can establish familiarity.
Anyway, to task... I found, logged into the pc in question (as admin) that the profile actually exists locally and is both 'hidden' and 'read-only'
I have changed those attributes and will post the results.

BINGO -- Re-instating the correct attributes on the profile folder did the trick. Now we can send and recieve to our hearts content.
I'm not sure how this point thing works, but since you put me on the path, I'll give them up to you.
Thanks for your help.

strangely, i checked the files in question (see below) from my pc (via admin share C$) and there are no 'read-only' issues. BUT, when I went to the users pc, there is NO profile to be found. I have roaming profiles set up and from his pc there is no profile on the local C: or the redirect...

I think I found the problem for anyone who is running into this. Try checking the properties of the following files:
outlook.srs, outlook.dat and views.dat-- or they may have a different filename, but there aren't many files in that folder.
These files are located in:
c:\document & settings\<Username>\applic
What most likely is the problem is that these files now say read-only and you need to change the setting. This should correct the problem.
So... this may give me a new line of attack... find the missing profiles?
