personal.xls

When i open excell, it always starts with personal.xls.  When i want to open another document, it says personal.xls is already in use and makes it a read-only file.
Where can i change this?

Hi z9bep50,

You could start here

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q135/4/74.asp

There are numerous ways to change your startup, and this document will show you some ways of achieving this.

This one will shed some light on personal.xls

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q153/8/93.asp
from the document
"In Microsoft Excel for Windows, the Personal.xls file normally resides in the \Excel\Xlstart folder" this file is used like the normal.dot in Word. For storage of standard macro's etc.

If I were you I would start by having a look in VBA for rogue projects and Auto-macros. This sounds like it could be an amateurish virus.
If you are unfamiliar with VBA then let me know and I will go into more detail.

I still think you may be infected.
Simply having personal.xls open at start-up shouldn't give you your reported message when you try to open a new file.
