Get "AWARE97.XLA is already open" message opening Excel97

I get a message opening Excel97 (in Windows 95):
"A document with the name AWARE97.XLA is already open. You can not open 2 documents with the same name, even if they are in different folders. To open the second document, either close the document that's currently open, or rename one of the documents."
No file by that name appears in the Task Manager.
Any ideas?

The file is an office add-in. This is a file that allows OMNIPAGE (OCR software from CAERE) to interact directly with Excel.  It let's you acquire scanned text directly from within Excel.  There will likely also be an AWARExx.DOT file for WORD.

These are installed with OMNIPAGE if you say "yes" to the "associate with Excel and Word" dialod box.

Look in your Office Library directory and delete it.

Thanks, kchandle,
I don't know what you mean when you refer to the "Office Library directory". Can you elaborate?
Thanks,
David
Hi David,

The .xla extension means that this is an Excel add-in file. Excel Add-in files run on the background and are used for custom Visual Basic for Applications functions and procedures. Check your XLStart directory for presence of any Aware97.xla files. Try to uncheck the Aware97 add-in from Excel menu Tools/Add-Ins...

The XLStart directory contains files which are automatically started when Excel is started and is normally located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\XLStart.

Good Luck

Oh, Office directory in the Explorer (sorry - I'm a little slow)
So I should delete (or rename) the files named:
AWARE97.XLA
AWARE97.DOT
Correct?

Thanks, calacuccia,
Try to uncheck the Aware97 add-in from Excel menu Tools/Add-Ins.
I'll try that first. (I think I looked in there and didn't see it, but it is on a PC at a customer's and it's been a week since I looked - I will get there next week to try all suggestions)
Thanks,
David
Thanks to both for this help.  There were 2 instances in the Startup.
