Attachements in Outlook XP

Why can I not send nor receive certain attachments within Outlook XP, these are mainly, exe's bat's etc.  Is there  a setting that I can change to stop Outlook blocking theses sort of attachements?

Yes it could be an option in Outlook or if you are on a company email server (Exchange, Lotus, etc) then they may have a block as well.  If its just an option and you are using an ISP email acct then you would just do the following:

Click Tools
Click Options
Click Security and uncheck Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus.

Hope this helps and if not let me know.
If your Outlook was installed by an IT group, my guess is that you won't have the ability to change the settings that QuickAnswer suggests. I have XP, and there are no settings. The attachments are probably being blocked by Outlook ("Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments: filename.ext"). In some cases, your company may have an anti-virus filter at the firewall/mailserver level. This may be able to be configured. To get around it, simply have the sender rename the file with a different extension or zip, and resend. It should work without a hitch.
