asked on

how to change product key on Office 2003 which has been activated

To who it may concern!!
when i have instlled office 2003 on my pc i have entered a key from my other used license. therefor my activating through the web didn't work.
but then ihave found my good cd with the right cd key. i need to change the serial key once installed.
the only way that i know of is to uninstall and reinstall the software
now I know that with windows activation you can go to the registries nad change some info at MSOOBE
and then run the c:\windows\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a" to launch again

As well as renaming/deleting the ProductID registry entry I found that you also needed to rename/delete the DigitalProductID entry from the same registry key. This entry is binary but when viewed as text show the same data as ProductID.

Supplementary comment confirmed.

I reinstalled a machine today using the wrong office key and it wouldn't Activate.

Following the first link didn't work, removing the key mentioned in the second comment sorted it just fine.

Lest the external URLS disappear, here's a quick precis.

Regedit

Find

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Office/11.0/Registration/<only-32-bit-ID>

Change the value if key "ProductID" to "OldProductID"
Delete the key DigitalProductId

Now start one of the office apps - it should ask you to re-enter the key, then activate normally. This process puts back the reg keys you tinkered with.

As ever, in regedit, Be Very Careful. :)
