File open and save command hangs Office 2003 products

I have read similar problems but have not had any solutions work.  MS Word, Powerpoint and Excel exhibit this behaviour.  When choosing file, and then open, the window will come up for you to select the files you wish open, but once you click on any file or folder to open it hangs.  Interestingly, if I open powerpoint or word and click on the recently opened files they open.  The application will also hang when doing a save as, in all three powerpoint, word, excel.  I have disconnected from all network drives and tried the registry fixes listed.  Nothing has worked.  Please give me any other suggestions!

Yes all MS Office updates and Windows Updates have been installed.  I did a windows xp system restore to a day earlier in the week before the problem arose, and it fixed it only to start happening again today.  No software or hardware has been added.  Very weird problem.  Did a spyware scan and virus scan, nothing came up
Hi,
Try this one. I think it could help.

If the above does not help, you can try the following.
You can go into the the tools/options menu, select the general tab where the default file location parameter is defined and  check if it defines a folder on a mapped drive. If it is, change that to a drive that is not mapped.

Hi jeydss,
Please see B-M-C's comment in http:/Q_21815502.html#16465442      Apparently, Microsoft rolled out a security update on Tuesday which conflicts with software installed with HP scanners, HP cameras and HP printers that include camera card readers. The cure is a registry tweak.
