Problem running MS Equation Editor 3.0 in Word 2003

Whenever I try to run the Equation Editor in Office 2003, it says "an error occured and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Would you like to repair this feature now?". I tried clicking on "yes", then it would say "Installing: Application server", then "This object was created in Equation. This application is not available to open this object.".

I am sure I had selected Equation Editor when I chose the components to install during Office 2003 setup. I've tried popping the CD in and reinstalled Equation Editor, still no luck. I did again try reinstalling the component using the Office 2003 CD, nothing changed.

Does anyone have any idea what's causing this?

is this only happening with existing documents, if you open a new document and choose | insert | object | equation editor
does that work?
I found the reason after reading the KB

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=820916

After I follow the instruction in there, I found that the path of the equation editor is empty, then I access the folder c:\program files\common file\microsoft share\equation and access the equation editor directly and it can't be open. It seems the file is corrupted. After I used another Office disk to reinstall, it works fine.

Thanks very much bruintje.
I'm having the same problem but I'm not as lucky. What did you reinstall? Just equation editor or the entire office?
I have followed the instruction in

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=820916

to install the support template. Even after I inputed the correct path into Appdir

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\EQUATION

the problem still there. What should I do?

Thanks,
Eddy
I've tried to re-installed the Office. I've also tried to replace the EQNEDT32.EXE and EEINTL.DLL by working copies. Both methods did not help.

Please help! Thank you.

If you have East Asian Font support installed on Windows, that could be the reason. I found this out while experimenting with different windows components installation combinations.

Thanks, ZenaNg.

How do I know if "East Asian Language" pack is installed or not?

If I uninstall the "East Asian Language" pack, can I continue to use Chinese (write and read) in the Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and IE? If it is negative, this is not an option for me. Although add-in like NJStar or Unionway may help, it involve additional cost.

Thank you.
