"Microsoft Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application." Then it closes out!
Well this should be an interesting one that I hope can get solved quickly.
I'm helping another classmate fix her computer as she is experiencing an intersting problem. Whenever she tries to open any of her Microsoft Office applications, a Window's Installer box appears and says "Installing Microsoft Window's Features." After it gets through about a quarter of the way installing, it asks for the network/cd location. Since the computers we got through our school were all formatted when we got them, we don't have the CD. Additionally, we are currently studying abroad and don't have access to the network (even though our college doesn't have the software on their network for download). We have OfficeXP on our computers as a side note.
I tried calling our computer resource center but all they said was that it was spyware. Quite the smart ones if you ask me. There is OBVIOUSLY something wrong with an OfficeXP file. Once it hits the point asking for the location, you have to hit cancel. Then another box appears saying "Microsoft Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application." When you click OK, it closes Word (or any other OfficeXP application).
Any help with this problem is greatly appreciated as she can't get any assignments done until this gets fixed.

Since Alan has said that the system was formatted b4 he recieved it, I think there is no way System Restore is going to set his problem right here

I assume that he meant that the school installed (not formatted) the software before he received the computer. And that at one time office did work on the system.

That's what I did mean. When we got our computers, they had already been formatted and had all the software installed. Until recently, it worked fine. I thought about the system restore, but the girl had disabled her's, so that's out of the question I guess.

Sorry I misunderstood the "formated" as refering to the formatting of the hard-disk.

Did u install any of the Service packs of XP b4 u started having problems with Word. Also are other Office applications working correctly?.

SP2 had been installed a while ago. As for the other Office applications, they are all facing this same problem

U have'nt mentioned if Office was working immediatly after installing the SP of XP. Anyways this was one of the links that I could come up with. See if it helps u. Remember u must have Administrator rights to use this help

SP2 was installed back when it first was released. This problem just started 4-5 days ago. Just to note: I do have administrator rights as this account.

The only other suggestion I have is to contact the college and see if they will send you a copy of the install disks. Or use the open source office that Karthik suggested.

First, I think that Karthik gave you the answer you need stating that you need to reinstall.
Second, you wil need the CD's to reinstall software.
Third, if the school gives you the CD's, I would be shocked because they use one set of CD's to install on numerous PC's. At my school, they won't even let you see the CD's. They would have to trust you with their CD's. And, I don't think they will. They "might" consider doing the work for you, but I highly doubt it. They usually don't do any more work than they have to, if they're not getting paid, especially for students. Why? Because if anything goes wrong with your computer, they are responsible. And, the school or technician might have to pay for repairs which they don't want to.
Fourth, you can get the education version of MS Office. It is not cheap, but it is cheaper.
Fifth, you need to remove your old software to put on the new software.
Once you do all this, if you do everything correctly, you should be home free.

My wife has the same problem and I hate the typical IT response of re-installing, thats not a solution, besides her IT department removed and re-installed MS Office and it still does not work. I am wondering if the Office 2007 compatibility add-ins have something to do with it.
Has anyone noticed anything about the COA Keys? I am having a similar problem but on a commercial scale and the Office key to which the program is tagged to, is a corporate key. Perhaps too many licenses have been used. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling only to have the same error, and on ALL office apps. Additionally, this problem is with Office 2003 (Dont ask why its 03, and not 07) - As for typical IT responses, reinstalling the app is almost always a sure fire way to fix the issue in question although it doesnt always work, its a step that should never be overlooked.
But it's worth a try before going out and buying software you already have.
You could try a System Restore if your running Win XP. Restore the system to a date when office was working. If this doesn't work you could always undue the restore.
