Windows Logo Hangs at Logon Screen

When I try to start Windows XP Home , the computers hangs ...
The only thing I see is the Windows Logo ( blue windows screen) , the one just before you
see the Logon screen - Welcome screen. to choose a user account.
I get the same result in safe mode , or any other mode...
