Problem opening a PDF document
I have an error with opening a PDF document. I have Adobe reader 6.0 installed.
When i click on the PDF document Adobe begins to open, however a Windows Installer window opens and says 'preparing to install'.
Then a Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer window opens and says' The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable'. 'Click OK to try again, or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package 'Micrsoft Windows Journal Viewer.msi' in the box below.
Use source: C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCAL S~1\Temp\I XP000.TMP\
The options are OK, Cancel and Browse.
1. When I click OK, a Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer window opens saying...
The path C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCAL S~1\Temp\I XP000.TMP\ MicrosoftW indowsJour nalViewer. msi cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer.msi' in a folder from which you can insatll the product Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer.
The only option is to click OK.
2. When I click Cancel, a Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer opens saying...
An installation package for the product Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer.msi'.
The only option is to click OK.
To get rid of the window I have to ctr, alt and del, and end task.
Any help would be great thanks

cool :)
uninstalling MS Journal Viewer might not be the best solution in every case...
1st solution: start MS Journal Viewer once *before* you install Acrobat
or
2nd solution: download the MS Journal Viewer install package (V 1.5) from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=fad44098-8b73-4e06-96d4-d1eb70eacb44&displaylang=en
Extract (unzip/unrar) the package (the msi file is in there) and point (browse) the Windows "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" to the extracted .msi file from the package.
You might want to visit Windows Update again to check if there is a newer version of MS Journal Viewer available (don't forget to run it once afterwards ;-)

There are indeed 2 solutions for this problem:
1: reinstalling the Journal Viewer suite after your first update by Microsoft. This is for me the fastest and most easy todo solution. The update makes your installation complete and reinstalling just adds some paths to where the install package can be found. Since the update's are placed in the /temp folder when unpacking this gives the error when Windows needs the install package.
2: Just remove the journal viewer since no one realy seems to use it, however its a great tool provided by the gates man :) Here-after you should not get any question for a install path, since the software is not to any availl. The bug consists in Windows Journal Viewer and will be fixed soon, If we may believe Microsoft Helpdesk.

first i like to know wht OS u r using if u r using XP or 2000 then dear u have to first login using that avccount that is used when u install the acrobat reader a logic is this when ever u install any software all the settings are merged with that login id profile.
second if u r trying to install the software over LAN or say network source then u have to need that source in u r hand all the time when ever u r trying some other addtional option of the application Bcoz some application does not install all the features at thier default setup.

Hi thanks for all the subsequent posts. This was resolved as i posted on the 01/11/2005 ( as above )
As an alternative to Adobe Reader, you might take a look at Foxit Reader. VERY quick. No, not as many bells and whistles, but if speed matters...

Hi and thanks for the post, will check it out.
ll of a sudden, I can't view Adobe Acrobat files!! Getting an error message saying I need Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer.msi. Where did that come from?? Currently running Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional. I ran a search for the msi and it revealed nothing. I checked the 'add remove programs' list and found Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer but when I tried to remove it, it ask for that msi file which is not on my computer. How do I get out of this dilemma? I tried to install a new Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer from the Microsoft downloads site but it would't install (stating an older version was on my computer). Where????
