NAV Corp Edition Live Update problems

NAV 9.0 Installs fine.  After Installation it connects and downloads virus definitions and live update files.  After finish downloading, it updates everything but the definitions.  It says:  a symantec file is in use and cannot be updated, please close any symantec programs running and try again.  I have run RegCleaner and tried to Clean the system other ways but nothing.  I have already deinstalled, removed any symantec folders and repeated installation, but same error occurrs.  Please Adivse

what non-sytstem items are in your processes? It may be another symantec app creating the error and not NAV.

Not sure on where to find the live update version, my live update works fine it just wont apply the Avenge 1.5 MicroDefs2 Corp 9 to the folder becasue it thinks another symantec product is currently using it even though I dont have any additional symantec products installed

Check in Control Panel.

Zee is right.
If you still dont find your version, download the latest from symantec and install it. it should solve the problem.

Its live update 2.0.39.0
I just downloaded the latest version, hope it works! Thanks guys
Ok then try out the link that zee posted.
Download the latest version but not the lite one
that is you d get lusetup and not lusetup-lt
try that and it ll work

;-)

Fingers crossed.
Here is the exact message after download:
LU1821: LU1821: This update failed because it tried to overwrite a file that was in use.  Close all of your Symantec applications and run LiveUpdate Again.
one possibe resolution is to delete luinsdll.dll and reinstall live update
thats what im trying now
Tried that, it wont let me unselect anything, it always trys to download the defs only
I thought installing NAV 9 would give me a work around to Norton Internet Security 2005 failing to work properly, now both are hosed somehow

You don't mention your version of Windows...

But, you may also try this:

Uninstall NAV, LiveUpdate and LiveReg, if present, and reboot after the uninstall.

Make sure ALL Norton software was uninstalled.

Now install the downloaded LiveUpdate and see if it is successful.

If it is, install NAV and skip LiveUpdate if you can. I believe it will not overwrite the previous installation,  but...

After that post back your findings and include your OS.

Are you running Win9x/Me?
Deleting the dll didnt work , I will let you know zee on the outcome in about 5 min
Operating System is xp pro sp2
Zee> I believe it will not overwrite the previous installation
I m afraid it might cause it detects all previous installations and overwrites them.

Try first sth simpler. Close everything and reboot in safe mode...
Then try to install the new version. if that still doesnt work try to delete those files.

can you run live update without having nav installed, if so , how?
nevermind that question
Ok, I feel like I've tried everything, nothing works
I also notice when I open NAV the Live update button is greyed out and has a picture of a locked lock.

Are you installing with Administrator privileges?
yes the user is an administrator of the PC
Any one know of any removal tools for NAV 9.0 or Internet Security 2005?

Try uninstaling it manually or using the app in the following link

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606?Open&src=bar_sch_nam&docid=1998042447241964&nsf=nav.nsf&view=4f6d23041268279685256ee6005192bb&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=
I know the link is long but it should help:)

Search in general in the symantec database for solutions
Usually they are helpfull.
one thing I would try to do, before uninstalling the NAV, is to reboot into safe mode with Networking and see if it will update the defs. Safe Mode with Networking will only load drivers that is really needed to perform the basic functions, thus NAV shouldn't have any processes running in safe mode, networking will allow you to connect to Symantec and download any new defs.
Found the Fix:
open the registry under hkey local\software\symantec\installed apps\savc
the value should read C:\program files\symantec client security\symantec
before it just read C:\program files\symantec

Nice!

Thank you.
