I have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 installed on a new Toshiba Tecra A3 Laptop running Windows XP Pro fully updated. I also have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed, and fully updated. When "Security"is enabled in Norton I.S, Acrobat freezes on startup, after a Norton dialogue box appears asking wether to permit Acrobat to access the internet. every time, I've chosen "Permit Always", but it doesn't remember the setting, as I have to hardware reset the PC to regain full control (cannot even end the Acrobat process). I have run "Program Scan" in Norton Internet Security's Personal Firewall configuration, and added and enabled all internet-enabled programs; the scanner does find Acrobat, and claims to enable it - yet for some reason, the "Permit?"dialogue still appears upon starting Acrobat. When looking in detail, Acrobat is trying to contact an internet server on UDP port 53.
If Norton Internet Security's "Security" is disabled, Acrobat runs perfectly. I am at a loss here. In need of an urgent solution, hence the points :)
Thanks people,
Chris

check C:\Documents and Settings\torque\Local Settings\Temp, sure enough, Acrxxxx.tmp galore.... ending with AcrFFFF.tmp, each exactly 0 bytes.
C:\Documents and Settings\torque\Local Settings\Temp>erase acr*.tmp
Erase all the files, that should resolve the issue. Also clear all the temp files. To make it easy you can use disk clean. Download it from the link:
http://www.robertenfemke.nl/~diskclean/download.php
This should resolve the issue.
Norton Internet Security (NIS) is known to block programs when it should not. Since you enabled everything, Acrobat should work. Disable NIS when you open Acrobat, then enable after Acrobat is opened.
In the long term, replace NIS with another firewall. ZoneAlarm is a good software firewall and is free.
Cheers!

Software is any set of instructions that directs a computer to perform specific tasks or operations. Computer software consists of programs, libraries and related non-executable data (such as documentation). Computer software is non-tangible, contrasted with computer hardware, which is the physical component of computers. Software written in a machine language is known as "machine code". However, in practice, software is usually written in high-level programming languages than machine language. High-level languages are translated into machine language using a compiler or interpreter or a combination of the two.
