js3250.dll-Firefox Crashes

I have a problem with firefox crashing. Presently I have installed version 1.0.7 but this happened before I installed this version.

The problem persisted to nontolerable levels and also full system crashes until in desperation I reinstalled a nearly new (pre Katrina) system with another.  It seems that the problem lies with js3250.dll.

I still have the problem with firefox. I have 2 other computers running this same version and they have not crashed with firefox ever.

My web searches have left little information, other than it is a far more common problem than I first imagined.

I am running Windows XP Professional (SP2) on an old 1 ghz Athlon computer with 512 mb ram and a fairly new 40 GB hard drive.

Is there a solution to this problem or should I just forget about using firefox with this computer?

Greetings, HMCS !

You need to uninstall Firefox.  Then delete the Firefox profile created in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox folder

Now reinstall Firefox and you should be set.

Best wishes!

Sorry but "been there, done that" with the previous install that contained the problem but I'll try it one more time. I uninstall and then manually remove any still existing files. Just to make sure I'll redownload another copy of firefox. Also I have yet to find the profile. Perhaps do you mean program files instead of documents and settings?
It is important that you delete the Firefox file.  What operating system are you using?  If Windows XP, then the location of profile file is correct.  If Windows 98, the profile file is in C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox

I found it finally on this computer. I did not have show hidden files and folders checked. I deleted the profile first, then talkback, then firefox using the uninstall in the mozilla firefox folder, then sure deleted (shredded) any remaining files.

Only time will tell if this works but what I don't understand is how and why after a full reinstall/format of my drive the same previous problem reappeared. It makes no sense, unless there is a problem with the dll and/or the system itself.

Just to be safe I'm downloading another copy of firefox, deleting the old one and proceeding from there. Now only time will tell.
HMCS, hopefully, you will have a stable Firefox.  I run Firefox 1.0.7 without any problem.
I am also running it fine on a number of machines but had a similar problem when I first installed it on one computer.  During the install or setup is Firefox reading information from any other browsers?
I ran into a problem on a computer that had used Netscape.  Firefox was reading one of the files (download information I think) and was creating a file that was huge.  Firefox was very unstable until I corrected this.  If this sounds like your problem and you want details then let me know.

The only browser I have on here is IE. I have no idea what firefox is reading. This problem existed in a previous install and continues with this 2 day old install of XP.

What's the deal with the js3250.dll?
js3250.dll is a Javascript library file.  Do you have any Firefox extension installed?

I don't have anything except what's installed with firefox originally, a barebones install of firefox.

I'm hsnging onto the download. I'll see if it crashes. Might take a day or two, as it does'nt do it all the time, just enough to be a real pest/
HMCS,

Has Firefox worked without crashing the last few days?

I have been out of town this weekend (11/4-6/2005) but before I left on the 4th firefox crashed on me twice, once while actually attempting to reach a website and the other when closing the browser. I have not yet put in the replacement dll but I also have noticed that many sities require a download of java, which is a 100+ mb download. since the dll is a javascript library file it might need the java download to function properly. It's worth a shot although a 100+ mb download at dialup speeds is painfull at best.
HMCS, if the one file does not work, you might want to refresh your scripting engine:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/nhp/default.asp?contentid=28001169
or
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp
Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c717d943-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en

Scripting engine is 661 KB download.  If you have broadband on another computer, you may want download it to a CD and install it on this PC.  Make sure you get the one for Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox, and not Internet Explorer.

I'm pretty sure the DL is for firefox cause sometimes I get a prompt directly from the firefox browser.

What will a scripting engine do for me. I am running XP Professional, SP2.
Scripting Engine refreshes your Javascript.   Java and Javascript are two different things.  The problem file is part of the Scripting Engine.
The DLL should not require and install of java.

I have installed JRE 1.0.5_05 and the scripting engine. The dll I've yet to replace. We will see if any of this works. It's won't crash all the time, just now and then so I'll probally not breathe a sigh of relief if it does'nt crash in a week.
LeHMCS, keep us updated.  Windows crashes everyone once in a while.  So if you see a crash, check if it is cause by the JS file.

Sadly I report the problem still exists. In addition I have had crashes with IE, my firewall and a chat program I use almost every day.

This is a brand new install and was done to get away from problems such as these. I do have other computers but this one is my "internet computer". I have one that I work with with Word and Works and my minor photo programs: Irfanview,  PSP IX & PS Elements almost exclusivly and other which I have my main graphics programs loaded: Photoshop CS2 and PSP X.

All these other computers at one time or another have used these same programs without problems whatever. So I wonder what might be the problem. The install went flawlessly without a hitch whatever.

Any ideas?

I did the hard drive test, it passed. I did the memory test and I assume it failed. I went thru the test twice, once by accident & it reported a bit over 3,000 errors. I am not famililar with this program and found no way to save a report. If someone is more familiar with this memory testing program, I'd like to know if further testing is of any value.

My motherboard is an MSI MS-6191 and has in it 2-256 MB sticks of memory. I do not know what kind of memory, except I do know 512 is all this MB will take. The chipset is a

What's your opinion? Is my ram bad and which one or should I just chuck both sticks and get new ram (provided it's not that expensive cause I'm on a limited income). Is this the causes of my mysterious crashes or should I look elsewhere?

HMCS,

Yes, you need to replace the RAM if you get errors from the Memtest86. Use this website to identify which type of RAM you need

http://www.crucial.com/

I've gone to the crucial web page and checked ram. Their finder for the MS-6191 is either PC100 or PC133. Which is correct actually and also I looked up the motherboard on the MSI web page. It says it has 2 slots and a total of 512 ram. I wonder could I put in one 512 and leave the other slot open? The MSI web page also says PC100, so I woner if the crucial answer is right or not. The reason I ask is that I've found some 512 PC 133 that is cheaper than 256 PC 100 ram.
Does either site specify how much RAM you can put on each slot?  Some older motherboards do not allow you istall larger RAM chip in one slot.  Crucial is usually right. I am not familiar with MSI.
Avatar of HMCS

ASKER

nope I can't see that they make that specification. I'm hesitant about putting in one 512 chip and then finding out too late it won't work. I did find out that I am using PC133 ram in this computer. With all the erros that cropped on on the memory test I'd venture to say that one or both of them are bad.
How old is the motherboard?  If you buy RAM chip locally, you can return them.  If you buy them online, then you should buy two 256 MB PC100 chips.
Avatar of HMCS

ASKER

I can't find anything about that but I'm sure hesitant about putting in 512 in only one slot. It's a nice idea that might not work. ne stock is from the factory and the other was put in by a friend some years ago.
Avatar of HMCS

ASKER

The computer is about 4 years old give or take. the additional 256 is probally3 years old and was not purchased locally. the ocmpany that made the computer no longer does business in the USa/ The one original chip was also a 133, go figure.
You have an older motherboad, so use chips.  Usually, PC133 will drop in speed down to PC100 speed if installed with a PC100 chip.

I hava a pair of 133 according to Crucial. One was factory installted like I said and the other about a year later.

So it seems we have gone from a pesky dll problem with Firefox, into a much more complicated realm of potentially bad ram.

So bottom line here is where exactly do I go from here? I'd like your recommendation on which type of ram to seek that would be acceptable to this poj (piece of junk) computer. I'm convinced that faulty ram is most obvious culprit to my firefox, IE, firewall and chat program crashes.

Your opinion please.

Umm... ram has nothing to do with this common Firefox problem.

Well (no offense) the question and answer is a moot point considering that the problem happened in 11/05 and since then I have been through several installs and upgrades. I have never had the problem appear before again (and hope never);
