What is the Best Antivirus and Why

I just got a new 3.06 ghtz with 1023 ddr 400 ram 4 hard drives and 4 years of work on them. I'm concerned about protecting my system from viruses. I do back all my info up, but I need to know what is the best product out there.
Please tell me what you think is the best and why. I keep hearing Norton is the best. I also hear that Norton is a system hog. I'm in a quandry right now and need a little help.

That wonderful that they have been awarded that title. I hope that most understand that internet ratings of products are kind of reminiscent of Wrestling/boxing titles..... I dont' trust any of them. It is such an easy thing to test for yourself. Setup a couple of machines and have some fun. Then in the morning you can also hand out an award and rate one of them the best of class.
