The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Pervasive.SQL V8 on NT4 - hangs after reboot

Asked by ehud42 in Btrieve 4GL Database

Upon installing V8 SP1 of Pervasive, the server will only work until it is rebooted. After a reboot an event is generated that the Transactional service has hung, and the clients cannot connect. The only solution to date is to uninstall, reboot, install - and leave it.

The client is using NT4.0 Server, and Pervasive 7.0 as the database to a DOS based accounting program (Windward). Part of the migration path to a windows based client, is to upgrade the database. I uninstalled version 7.0 and rebooted the server. I then installed version 8.0 Sp1 of Pervasive. There was a warning about IE not being recent enough (current version was 4), however we proceeded with the install. The installation completed successfully with both the relational and transactional service being started. The Analyzer was able to run through its checks ok, and the clients could connect to the database. All was good. Next morning, to address some performance complaints, the server was restarted. BTrieve is now dead in the water. In the process of trying different things IE was upgraded to 5.5, this cleared up a warning that would occur during the installation, but did not solve the problem.
