ODBC driver for btrieve

I need an ODBC driver for a btrieve database, I only have the .DAT files, and need to convert them to MSSQL server (I use the MSDE2000). But first I want to access the data, and for that I need an driver, and some instructions how to set it up. Can anyone help me ?

I only got the .DAT files  from the customer, and need to do the rest. How can I determine the version of the database if I only have the .DAT files ? (It seems I need 6.xx to get an ODBC driver)
You're going to need an engine to read the DAT files.  What version of Btrieve is the customer using?  You can always download the trial version of Pervasive.SQL V8.6, which is the current version from http:/www.pervasive.com.

I downloaded Pervasive.SQL V8.6, but since there is not DDR file I can only see raw data with it. I also have a .DAT to .TXT file converter and that does the same job for me, so is there a benifit by using the Pervasive.SQL V8.6 compared with the dat->text file converter ?
