The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Legacy application (Protection violation 4): Btrieve 5.10a and Magic Gateway 5.60c1

Hi all!

I've come across a legacy application - it uses Btrieve/N Record Manager Version 5.10a and Magic Gateway 5.60c1.
It was installed sometime in 1992 in an organization and is still running there.
We have to migrate its functionality to different technologies now. We managed to retrieve some data using BTFILER but we would like to run the application in our office to research it better.
The original environment is a DOS server, Novell network and Windows98.
I try to run the application here on a single machine - Windows 98 or Windows 2000.
In the original environment they map the application dir from the server as a network drive as W.
On the Windows 98 I subst the application dir as W;
I also installed IPX protocol support.
The error I get is from the application layer and says something like "Protection violation 4". It seems "4" is some error code - since using different configurations I managed to get "Protection violation 3" and "Protection violation 11". :)
Does this have something to do with using Network Btrieve? Is there a special local version?
Does someone know more about the Magic Gateway settings concerning Btrieve?
Actually it seems error is coming from HASP.
Is it possible that the application is configured to use the Novell network user authentication?

I know my question is a mess but I don't even know where to start from. :(
