The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

accessing btreive .dat file via an activex dll (vb6)

Asked by howardrhyne in Btrieve 4GL Database

Tags: , ,

I have a "legacy" product(vb6 .exe) that I maintain.  It uses btrieve data files for the database and uses
Declare Function BTRCALL Lib "w3btrv7.dll" (ByVal OP, ByVal pb$, Db As Any, DL As Integer, ByRef Kb As Any, ByVal Kl, ByVal Kn) As Integer
to access the data.  I have written an dll that updates some of my tables using sql calls and have ran into a problem.  One of my tables has a field in it that is defined as a string and has 48 characters in it.  In the vb code a custom type is defined and the 48 character string is placed into that type.  Within that type one of the items is defined as an integer so before the btrieve record is updated that integer is converted into part of the 48 character string with this code:
temp = temp & MKI$(TempPropOVR.OVRSummary(i).SUMMinMaxTotPlayers)

with that done I try to update the btreive(pervasive) table using a sql statement and the statement will fail because the characters converted into a string make it syntacticly incorrect or if it does pass syntax the results will not e useable once i read them back out of the record because it is written out as a string in sql and can't be converted back correctly.

My problem is that i have thus far been unable to put the same code that I use in my vb6 .exe into an activex dll and get it to work.   Has anyone used the btrieve functions to update btreive data files via a function called from a dll they have written?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
