Question

NTDBSMGR.EXE hogging memory

We use an applications called TAS.  It uses Btrieve and we have used Pervasive SQL v8 SP1 as a transactional server engine for some time on a Netware 5 server.  We've recently moved this to a Windows 2003 Server, and now notice that ntdbsmgr.exe is hogging memory on the server (1.65gb at last count).  Data files are v8.

I've seen some posts on google stating that you need to switch off client caching - would this work, and would it have any impact on my users?

What's your cache allocation set to?  Also, what's the Max MicroKernel Memory Usage set to?  It should be no more than 60%

Cache allocation is currently 429399040 and is limited by memory.  Max microkernel memory is 100.  

The server has 2GB of RAM (though upgrading to 4GB) and is a 4 x 700 xeon dell poweredge server, just wanted it to run as quickly as possible for my users, who are just using it as a server transaction server.

Reset the Max Microkernel Memory to 60%, restart the engine and try again..

From the Pervasive Control Center:
Specifies the maximum percentage of available memory used by the MicroKernel for level two cache and other internal data structures. 0 means no level two cache.

I am currantly having the same problem on a windows 2000 server with a single proccessor that is running Pervasive SQL v8. I can't find were to look for the Max MicroKernel Memory Usage. Where would I look?

Max MicroKernel Memory Usage is in the "Configuration" then "Server" then "Performance Tuning" section of the PCC for the machine where the server engine is running.

In the PCC > Configuration > Server > Performance Tuning I see "cache allocation size" but I do not see the "Max MicroKernel Memory Usage"...any help would be appreciated.

I see through my PCC.  I am however running Pervasive.SQL V8.5/8.6.  Make sure you're also either at the machine where the engine is running or you are connected to the machine where the engine is running through the PCC.
