Btrieve Status 3014

I have a customer that can run a btrieve application fine from any workstation and even from the server.  But when he tries to run it remotely throught terminal services he gets a status 3014

Status 3014
The MicroKernel router could not complete the operation because it did not find an engine (local or remote) that could process the operation. Possible causes include:

•      The target network operating system is not available.

•      The target engine is not available.

•      In a Windows 3.x environment, you are using a shared drive name that contains a space. To resolve the condition, remove the space from the shared drive name. For example, if you connect to a server named “D Drive”, change the share name to “D_Drive”.

Where's the data in relation to the Terminal Server?  
Is the PSQL a Server Version or Workgroup version?  
What kind of application is this (Btrieve or ODBC / Win32, Win16, or DOS)?  
Do any of the Pervasive tools (Function Executor, SQL Scope) work in the TS session?

The data is store on a shared network drive
Server Version
16 bit and 32 bit.  VB Windows Application
The 16 bit part of the application uses the Btrieve data access calls
The 32 bit part of the application uses the Smithwared data controls
None of the Persavive tools work.  They all return the same status 3014

Is the "Shared network drive" mapped in the TS session?  If so,  does UNC work?  
Does a PSA network test work in the TS session?

UNC -- Universal Naming Convention (\\servername\sharename\path\filename)
PSA -- Pervasive System Analyzer

UNC works ok
PSA I'm unable to locate a Pervasive System Analyser on the system.  I went to Pervasive Web Site but could not find a download for PSA

UNC works but drive mapping fails?  If so, then you need to verify that the drive mappings are correct.  
PSA is available at http://www.pervasive.com/support/updates/psa_update.asp.  It's the V8 version.  I forgot you are using PSQL 7. You should use SmartScout and InstallScout rather than PSA.

According to the SmartScout log, you are connecting correctly.  You said all of the Pervasive tools fail with a 3014 as well.  What exact filename (and path) did you specify when you used the FUnction Executor?  What's the exact filename and path your application uses?

What happens if you use f:\scw\collect\data\nco_cli.btr?  
What's in the PVSW.LOG (on the client and server)?

Did using "F:\" have any effect?
An OS error 2 means: The system cannot find the file specified.
The error seems to be occurring on W3MIF109.DLL.  Does the user have rights to that DLL?

The Terminal Server Name is DRP
The PVSW.Log is from that computer

I will be talking with the a person at the company later tonight.  ( They are in Thailand ,13 hours ahead of EST ) I will get a remote login to one of the workstations and try running the btrieve application form there.

Maybe this will help isolate the problem.

So the data is on a drive mapped back to the local machine?

No the data is on the server.  But they have about 14 workstations running the application.  Hopefully at lest one is Windows XP-Pro.  If so we can attach to that workstation and if the application runs from there by Remote Desktop.  This would indicate it's a Terminal Server Issue ( Progably the way it's configured ) especially since the application runs on the server when you are at the server.  It just won't run remotely.

Is the Terminal Server the same machine as where Pervasive is running?  If so, then when you run "remotely" through a TS session, it's still running at the server and should access the data locally.

Instead of using a Drive Mapping, you need to use the local file (C:\<path>\<file>).  
This isn't a Pervasive setting but an application setting. What happens if you use Function Executor to open "C:\PVSW\DEMODATA\CLASS.MKD" in the TS session?

If the Terminal Server and the Database Server are the same box, then you may continue to have problems.  Pervasive did not start supporting this configuration until Pervasive.SQL 2000i SP3.

As I see it, you have two options:
1) Set up a DIFFERENT server as the TS box.
2) Upgrade the database to a more current version.  

Although the first option is probably easier (assuming you have the hardware and OS already available), I'd personally recommend looking into the latter option.  Newer vesions of Pervasive.SQL are not only cleaner and faster, but they are actually supported products.  Pervasive.SQL 7 hasn't been supported since 2001-09, and was never officially tested on anything newer than WinNT, IIRC.  You are eligible for an upgrade discount for the current Pervasive PSQL v9, if you're interested, and there is also a trial version available direct from Pervasive's web site.
