You don't say what version of PSQL you're using.  Newer versions really aren't designed to use  paths.  What happens if use a Database Name in the DBQ parameter?
You might also try:
using (OdbcConnection sqlprontoconn1 = new OdbcConnection("Driver={Pervasive ODBC Engine Interface};dbq=c:\\home\\pronto\\data\\ogawadata"))

by: doramail05Posted on 2009-07-30 at 21:07:37ID: 24986312

using the connection string above, i have the same error,

i only provided with tables name and local path.

by: mirtheilPosted on 2009-07-31 at 04:08:21ID: 24987688

All of the connection string options are listed here:
http://docs.pervasive.com/products/database/psqlv10/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm#href=sqlref/odbc.14.10.html

It's for v10 but applies to all versions of PSQL since PSQL 2000.

There are a couple of other things that might cause that error.  If this is an x64 OS and the application is compiled with the "AnyCPU" configuration, it might be looking for a 64 bit PSQL ODBC driver (which doesn't exist).
Another thing I've seen cause this error is permissions.  If the user doesn't have rights to the files or registry entries (to find the ODBC driver).  THis mainly happens with web apps.

by: doramail05Posted on 2009-07-31 at 11:26:11ID: 24991194

I almost tried all possible connection strings like:

using ( OdbcConnection odbcconn = new OdbcConnection("Driver={Pervasive ODBC Engine Interface}; ServerName=localhost; dbq=@ProntoDb"))
{
          try
          {
                 odbcconn.Open();
i got this error:

"Connect failed becoz you attempted a DSN less connection.."
and "Specific driver could not be loaded due to system error 1114"

However, when i used

using ( OdbcConnection odbcconn = new OdbcConnection("DSN=DSN01; dbq=@ProntoDb"))
{
it came out with this error:
"The maximum number of user count licenses has been reached".

Where could i close some sessions ? The user guide mentioned In Pervasive - PSQL 10 - Utilities - Monitor could find some idea, but there isnt any ways to close sessions - I have PSQL Server 10.10 installed but weird is that i could not find anywhere within Program Files to open..

by: mirtheilPosted on 2009-07-31 at 11:39:40ID: 24991299

This "Specific driver could not be loaded due to system error 1114" error is because the ODBC driver itself could be loaded because the DLL couldn't be found (either rights or path settings).

The Monitor's EXE is name W3MONV75.EXE.  You shouldn't just close sessions.  You need to check the installed license count and make sure it's high enough for your needs.  You might also have an expired temporary key.  Check the license administrator (GUILCADM.EXE).
Both EXEs are installed (along with the rest of the client or engine) to C:\Program Files\Pervasive Software\PSQL\bin by default.

by: doramail05Posted on 2009-07-31 at 19:05:15ID: 24993794

for the DLL,  which DLL is it referring to or if not found, could i be able to obtain on download?..

the license administrator GUILCADM could not be connected, even if i put the server name correctly.

server's .exe could not be found at C:\Program Files\Pervasive Software\PSQL\bin
but i open up PSQL DDF Builder to clear extra databases

now i try to use the connection string below and fond this error:

'ERROR [08004] [Pervasive][ODBC Client Interface]Missing '=' in connection string
.'

using (OdbcConnection odbcconn = new OdbcConnection("{Pervasive ODBC Engine Interface}; ServerName=localhost;DSN=DSN01; dbq=@ProntoDb}"))
            {

The DLL is probably W3ODBCEI.DLL or W3ODBCCI.DLL. Both are installed with the engine itself.  The W3ODBCEI.DLL is installed by the client install but W3ODBCEI.DLL is only installed with an engine.  The registry settings are the ones in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OBDC.

What error message did the GUILCADM.EXE give when connecting to the server?

Clearing the Databases through DDF Builder won't release licenses or user connections.

The connection string should be:

using (OdbcConnection odbcconn = new OdbcConnection("Driver={Pervasive ODBC Engine Interface}; ServerName=localhost;DSN=DSN01; dbq=@ProntoDb}")

there's no error message from GUILCADM.EXE.
i try putting other to test like 'DSN01' , it gave me, "The server is not running. Unable to show, apply or remove a license. "

in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OBDC\ODBC.INI\DSN01\
there's  | Driver |  REG_SZ | c:\program files\pervasive software\ psql\bin\ w3odbcci.dll |

in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OBDC\ODBCINST.INI\Pervasive ODBC Engine Interface
there's | Driver | REG_SZ | c:\program files\pervasive software\psql\bin\w3odbcei.dll

i found on other forum that upgrading PSQL service pack may help, but couldnt find PSQL Summit v10.10 SP, and tot it is the latest version.

i replaced with the connection string u suggested and came out this error,

"Connection failed because you attempted a DSN-less connection."
and then follow by this error :
"Specific driver could not be loaded due to system error 1114"

by: mirtheilPosted on 2009-07-31 at 19:48:16ID: 24993900

In GUILCADM.EXE, you enter the machine name of the machine running PSQL not the ODBC DSN name.

PSQL v10.10 is the latest currently.

Is this a WinFOrms app or an ASP.NET application?
If it's ASP.NET, make sure that the proper IIS/ASPNET user has rights to both the data file location and the engine location (c:\program files\pervasive software\psql\bin).

by: doramail05Posted on 2009-07-31 at 20:11:31ID: 24993933

i just downloaded a SP , PSQLv10Patch_Server_x86, restarted, the same error :

"Connection failed because you attempted a DSN-less connection."
and then follow by this error :
"Specific driver could not be loaded due to system error 1114"

in GUILCADM.EXE, i used the machine name correctly matched with PSQL DDF Builder's one.
And the system did not come out any messages. after pressing connect

by: mirtheilPosted on 2009-07-31 at 20:25:56ID: 24993959

In the GUILCADM, make sure that "Hide expired licenses" isn't checked.  You
should see the licenses installed on that engine.
Make sure you have a valid license installed on the machine where the engine is running.
I guess it's possible that the 1114 could be caused by an expired license.

>Is this a WinFOrms app or an ASP.NET application?
If it's ASP.NET, make sure that the proper IIS/ASPNET user has rights to both the data file location and the engine location (c:\program files\pervasive software\psql\bin).  <
Is this a WinForms or ASP.NET application?

by: doramail05Posted on 2009-07-31 at 20:33:27ID: 24993971

ops.. it is a winform.

The line showing in
| Pervasive PSQL 10 Server | Win32 | Temporary | 1 (UserCount) | 8/1/2009 (Exp Date) | 0 (Vendor) | 0 (Application)

I pressed 'deactivate' , this error:
7111: Temporary licenses cannot be removed. The license becomes invalid after its expiration date.

A user must purchase a valid license to be installed in the machine?

by: doramail05Posted on 2009-07-31 at 20:41:42ID: 24993992

I try to use OledbConnection as to by pass the PSQL ODBC Driver ,

once i run the program, it gave me a dialog with error:
'The provider is unable to resolve the following path. To continue, please provide the server and database name".
Server Name = localhost (cant changed) , Database Name = ProntoDb ( user enter)

after enter, it gave me the "The maximum number of user count licenses has been reached" error.

using (OleDbConnection odbcconn = new OleDbConnection("Provider=PervasiveOLEDB;Data Source=C:\\home\\pronto\\data\\ogawadata;"))
            {

Yes, a license must be installed on the machine running the PSQL engine.
Since you've got a 1 user temp license, it sounds like you haven't installed any license.  When you downloaded the trial, you should have gotten an email with a trial license key good for 30 days.  A permanent license is only available by purchasing it through a reseller or Pervasive.

by: mirtheilPosted on 2009-07-31 at 20:52:36ID: 24994019

The Pervasive OLEDB provider actually goes to the same engine (SRDE) as the Pervasive ODBC driver.  You still have to have proper licenses.

by: doramail05Posted on 2009-07-31 at 21:02:50ID: 24994032

wow..  got me turning around. finally i copy and paste one with 20 user counts..  apparently have to purchase a license in the future.

Appreciate for your speed response.
