Does anyone know, where I can download Butil.exe or Butil.nlm that works for Btrieve 5.10a version - Novell Netware ?

I already tried Butil5 and Butil7 from www.goldstarsoftware.com/download.asp

What do you mean it doesn't work?  What error are you getting?
The link you provided has the BUTIL.EXE for Btrieve v5.10.

by: need_help_btrievePosted on 2009-07-31 at 12:09:32ID: 24991544

I tried command to export to text sequential file.

BUTIL -recover file.dat file.txt

but the result give error and cannot process.

I tried for this file :
http://rapidshare.com/files/261447336/FF4BBKD.DAT.html

before thank you for your help.

What's the EXACT error returned?
If it's a status 30 error, it's because the file in question is in v6 format and not in v5 format.  You'd need a v6 (or later engine) to read it.

by: need_help_btrievePosted on 2009-07-31 at 13:08:05ID: 24991996

I tried both Butil 5 and Butil 7.

and both of them give result error. But I don't remember exactly the error code, because I'm  not at office now and I can't test here.
I run the command from other computers using map drive to novell server.

for smaller sample, there are :
http://www.pafi.co.id/jk/dat/

the version of btrieve is 5.10a
when loading, it show the version.

by: mirtheilPosted on 2009-07-31 at 13:17:29ID: 24992078

The version of BUTIL.EXE itself doesn't matter if the error is a status 30.
It's the underlying Btrieve Engine that will determine whether the file can be read.
Looking at the FA3PROJ.DAT file, it is also a version 6 file and needs a v6 or later Btrieve engine.
Once you get to the office, get the full error and post that.

thx u very much for your attention.

The posted versions of BUTIL at this site are the older DOS versions of these tools.  This means that you MUST have the DOS connector to the database engine, also known as the database "requester" loaded in the DOS window in which you are messing with this.

When used with a NetWare server, you will ALSO need to have the SPX communications protocol enabled on your workstation, enabled on the server, and configured for the database engine on the server.  If you are using a DOS application, for which using BUTIL for DOS makes sense, then this should already be set up.

If you are using a newer version of Pervasive, such as the Pervasive.SQL 2000i that shipped with later versions of NetWare, then you may be using TCP for the communications instead, which is preferred anyway.  In this case, you will already have a Win32 version of BUTIL as part of the Pervasive client.  (If you don't have the Pervasive client installed, find the installer in the SYS:PVSW\CLIENTS folder and run it.)

Once this is done, you should be good to go.

The error code when using Butil 5.12 :

error status = 2

Any idea how to fix this ?

Thx You

You get this error when you do WHICH command?  A Status 2 indicates an "I/O Error", but this could be related to a physical disk failure, or it could be related to a file corruption problem, or it could be related to the Btrieve engine just not understanding the file (which would happen if you ask Btrieve 5.x to analyze a Btrieve 6.x file).

If the file is damaged, then the recovery process may help.  Get more info from www.goldstarsoftware.com/press.asp in the paper on Btrieve File Maintenance.

If this doesn't help, then you may need to restore from backup, or call in more professional help.

If you are referring to the EXACT file indicated above, please note that I downloaded this file, and it works just fine -- no corruption.  This is a Btrieve 6.x file, so you cannot use Btrieve 5.x to read it.

yes, I use btrieve 5.10a version.. it's one folder in novell server.

so the problem is not valid engine version, and today seems it's not possible to find Btrieve 6.15 version.
I already googling and not found it.

@BillBatch: Thank you very much for your kindness to find the cause.
