Question

No version of Act! compatable with Vista 64-bit, Have Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager which might do me

No point in upgrading to Act 2007 as it's not compatable with Vista 64 and Sage say the next version available in Oct. 2007 will also not be compatable. I use very few of Act v6's features, just the standard contact details as well as  Notes/History and Activities. As I have Outlook Business Contact Manager it would seem the sensible and cheapest solution is to use it, as it appears to have all the features I need. I have succeeded in exporting all the standard contact details from Act v6 to csv (via Tab Delimeted). I can live without transferring Activities but I really need Notes/History connnected to each contact. The Help in Outlook Business Contact Manager says business contacts can be imported as a csv file but even if there is a way of getting Notes/History included in a csv out of Act v6 I don't know if there is a way of getting Notes/History into the Comments section of each contact in Outloook Business Contact Manager including their Time Stamps. I'm open to any suggestions of an alternative CRM instead

Actually, ACT! 10 is available now... but you're right that 64-bit operating systems are not supported due to there being no demand for it so far from their client base.

I have seen the same from most of the major CRM vendors... I guess not many in sales area can justify 64-bit computing as it provides very limited advantages to them which adding significantly to the cost, and not many will look at Vista for at least another 12+ months.

To get all the data out of ACT!, the best solution is from www.jttechnical.com

These guys can convert your ACT! data to BCM but it will cost $1,500:
http://www.act-to-bcm.com/

Here's a free way:
1.  Get your hands on an old copy of ACT! 2005.  If you can find the installer you can run it as a trial.
2.  Upgrade your version 6 database to ACT! 2005.  This is pretty easy - it's wizard driven.
3.  Then you can convert your ACT! database from BCM.
4.  Then you can uninstall your the old ACT! software.

This might work with later versions of ACT! (like 2006, etc) but I tried it and the database wouldn't open so I had to use ACT! 2005.

Thank you both GLComputing and SStroz. Both responses made me stop and think and re-examine my exact needs. I don't use it to actively sell. I have less than 1,600 contacts. Only about 30% of these have some Notes/History in Act v6. Probably more that half of the Notes/History entries are no longer relevant. Also for my simple needs Act is actually much more than I require. The bottom line is I spent about an hour and a half working and succeeded in importing the basic details of all my contacts into BCM. I keep my old laptop networked to my new PC and as and when required I will manually copy any important Notes/History entries. I now see that BCM is probably all I ever needed.
