How to install Act! 2007 on a Windows 2003 Server

Can anyone walk me through an install of Act! Premium for Workgroups 2007 ST Edition Version 9.0.1.162 on a Windows 2003 Server Domain Controller? We have users who do terminal service onto the server (just 1 server) and they want to run it from there as well as from the workstations. I am not a big database person, so the bigger hangup is on installing SQL Server 2005. I want to make sure I install everything correctly. We are actually migrating Act! from an old server to this new one.

While it not usually recommended to install on a DC, it runs fine... I run it on my DC here.

Just install it as per normal, backup the database from the old server, restore_as on the new server, turn on the share from ACT! and copy the new PAD file to each user.

I don't recall installing before, but I did try to install it last night and had a problem with SQL Server 2005. I tried to install it from Disk 2, but came across options I was not sure I needed to select or not. Is there a good site for showing screen shots and walking someone through the SQL Server install? Thanks.

I always recommend installing in Selective Startup mode as per Answer ID 14173. Obviously, you need to do this when no-one is on the server.

GL Computing,

I did follow the previous liks, but trying to install SQL server was again a problem. It said it installed successfully, but when I looked where I installed it (E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server) there was nothing there. Not even Program Files. It didn't copy any files or the directory structure. Is there something I am missing?

So, you're just installing CD2, right?

Does MS-SQL show up in add/remove programs in the Control Panel?

Yes, from Disk 2. Yeah, there were a lot of SQL Server entries in Add/Remove Programs, but we run Sophos antivirus whick uses SQL Server, so I wasn't sure if it was there because of Sophos or not.

If it doesn't think disk 2 has been installed, it would prompt for it.

It actually asked me if I wanted to install SQL Server. I wasn't sure why it asked.

Maybe you skip[ped something when installing disk 2 manually

Sounds like the anti-virus could be getting in the way.  Can you install to the C: Drive instead?  I've run into permissions issues across drives with SQL.  

The best practice is to keep the program files (SQL and ACT!) on the C: drive and keep the data files on a different drive.

You should try that if possible.  Also, you can install Disk 2 (SQL instance) and then use Disk 1 after the SQL install.  Then ACT! will detect it.

Looks like it installed fine. Still didn't look like it installed SQL, but I am not getting any errors running Act. Weird. Thanks all.
