How can I link a contact to a group using the ACT database in Crystal?

I am accessing the ACT! database in Crystal reports, and I want to link a contact to a group but I can't find a field in the contact table that identifies it as part of a group.  How does ACT do this within the program?

It in the Groups table.

A contact can belong to multiple groups, so it can't just be a field in the contact table.

You will probably have to add the GROUPS table then link like

CONTACT --> GROUPS  on contact ID
GROUPS --> GROUP on group id

So how can I determine what groups it belongs to?

The linking should do that.  If someone can belong to several groups you will get multiple records for him.

Tables should be similar to

Contact                  Groups                    Group
ContactId               GroupsId                   GroupId  
Name                      ContactId                  GroupName
etc                          GroupId                      Etc

You could add a group to the report on the GROUPNAME then put the ContactName in the details to list all the people in a group

You could group on the ContactName then put the GroupName in the details to list all the groups for an individual.

Here are pictures of what I am dealing with in Crystal.  I have been poking around for some time and have not yet  found anything that associates a contact with a group.  Where could this information be??

First you need to turn SMART LINKING off

The option is under FILE --> REPORT OPTIONS

Check the CONTACT_RELATION table.

The CONTACT_RELATION table is empty for some reason.  That seems like it would be the solution...

The Contact_Relation table is for relationships between contacts. Nothing to do with the Groups.

The table you are looking for is TBL_GROUP_CONTACT and has two fields, groupid and contactid which would show you static group associations.

Note, this will NOT show you dynamic group membership, that is much more easily done from the SDK.
