The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

[ACT6]  Loosing Activities During Export from One ACT DB to Another

Asked by CE101 in ACT

Application:    ACT version 6
O/S:              Windows 2000 Professional, SPK 4

I am trying to export records from one ACT database to another, however I am loosing some Activities during the process.
I am wondering if there are any situations under which ACT does not export records.

Before the export the source database (DB1) contained the following...
... 1,141 contacts    (including 14 user records associated with ACT users)
... 1,289 activities
...   187 groups
... 15,335 history/notes

Before the export the target database (DB2) contained the following...
... 14 contacts    (the same 14 user records associated with ACT users, as in DB1)
... 0 activities
... 0 groups
... 0 history/notes

After the export the target database (DB2) contained the following...
... 1,141 contacts    (including 14 user records associated with ACT users)
... 601 activities
...   187 groups
... 15,335 history/notes

As you can see we lost more than 1000 activities.

I went into DB1 and examined a number of activities that didnt make it to DB2 and dont see any commonalities that may explain their absence.
Some of them were created by me (the one who ran the export) and some were created by other users.
Some of them were scheduled for me (the one who ran the export) and some were scheduled for other users.
Some are "associated with a group" and some are not.

NOTE:
(1) Before running the export I ran the ACT database repair utility (actdiag_ACT-Diagnostics.exe) on DB1.
(2) The export was run with the "all records and groups" option.
(3) If you are wondering why I don't simply copy DB1 to DB2 ... The answer is that I am trying to reformat DB1 into a different structure. DB1 andDB2 have different record layouts.

QUESTION:  Are there any situations under which ACT does not export records?

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Gary
